If you like cabbage rolls you’ll love these. An alternative to ‘wrapping’ cabbage roles and so easy!!

Slow Cooker Cabbage No-Roll Ingredients

  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/2 lb (225 g) extra lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb (225 g) extra lean ground pork
  • 1 cup (250 ml) uncooked rice
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup (250 ml) water
  • 1 cup (250 ml) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) thyme, dried

 

  • 6 cups (1.5 liters) cabbage, shredded, or bag of coleslaw
  • 2 cups (500 ml) carrots, thinly sliced (if you use cabbage, not coleslaw)

Sauce

  • 2 cups (500 ml) tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup (185 ml) stewed tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) brown sugar
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) lemon juice
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Worcestershire Sauce

Preparation:

  1. Mix together garlic, onion, raw meat, rice, water, stewed tomatoes, sauce and thyme.
  2. Mix sauce ingredients together separately. Set aside.
  3. In slow cooker, layer 2/3 of cabbage/coleslaw in bottom, then carrots, then meat/rice mixture, then rest of cabbage/coleslaw.
  4. Pour sauce mixture over top and bake for 4 to 5 hours on high or 8 to 10 hours on low.
